Selecting a Circulation Desk
Shopping for the ideal circulation desk? Here is a short list of features to help you make the right selection.
- Modularity. A modular circulation desk is the most versatile choice as modular units can be rearranged easily if patron traffic patterns change or renovations take place. Modular units can also be added on to if requirements change or the need for expansion arises. Most importantly, modular units allow you to customize your circulation desk.
- Assembly. Setting up your new circulation desk is no problem when you order a fully assembled unit. Simply unpack it, set it in place and it’s ready to use.
- ADA Compliancy. ADA-accessible transaction stations make it easier for disabled patrons to use your library.
- Wire Management System. Modern technology requires that wire management be incorporated into today’s circulation desks. Modules with work-surface and end-panel grommets allow for cable passage from desk to desk, and a J-channel mounted to the underside of each module helps keep wires off the floor and away from employees’ feet.
Set-Up Suggestions Once you’ve decided on the desk that’s right for you and you’re ready to set it up, be sure to leave an opening at each end of your desk for easy entry and exit for you, your staff, and your book trucks. Single or double-action gates can be added at either end of your circulation desk to indicate staff-only access.
